Post-Session: Sensex extends rally to fifth day, ends 486 pts up

Indian equity markets extended gains to fifth straight day as buying was seen in PSU banks and pharma names. Nestle India rose 2 percent lifting benchmarks as investors digested earnings above-estimate earnings from the index heavyweight.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 74339.44 up by 486.5 points or by 0.66 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22570.35 up by 167.95 points or by 0.75 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74571.25 and intraday low of 73556.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22625.95 and intraday low of 22305.25



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1127.35,+5.98%), State Bank of India (Rs. 812.60,+5.10%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 905.50,+2.55%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2562.70,+2.39%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1520.55,+2.30%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1643.00,-10.85%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2231.00,-1.25%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3569.60,-1.05%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 7293.90,-0.46%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12900.00,-0.31%), among others.



PSU index was at 19730.8 up by 404 points or by 2.09%. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (Rs. 2453.95,+6.36%), Indian Overseas Bank (Rs. 66.86,+5.69%), State Bank of India (Rs. 812.60,+5.10%), UCO Bank (Rs. 56.75,+4.20%), Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (Rs. 1325.45,+4.10%),.



CDS index was at 54170.8 down by -245.9 points or by -0.45%. Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1514.00,-2.43%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3569.60,-1.05%), Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd. (Rs. 8090.85,-0.74%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 310.50,-0.42%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4174 , shares advanced were 2187 while 1817 shares declined and 170 were unchanged.
