Sensex surges 164 points; Nifty atop 22,400

Equity benchmark indices opened in green on Tuesday amid buying seen in Bharti Airtel, Titan, Tata Motors Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, NTPC, HDFC Bank and Maruti among others.



At 9:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 73812.71 up by 164.09 points or by 0.22 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22396.2 up by 59.8 points or by 0.27 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74059.89 and intraday low of 73763.91 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22447.55 and intraday low of 22382.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1320.05,+1.66%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1648.45,+1.18%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1482.25,+1.12%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 983.65,+1.04%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3633.85,+1.00%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 281.10,-0.86%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3594.00,-0.53%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 852.10,-0.35%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1050.50,-0.30%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2953.00,-0.26%), among others.



Realty index was at 7540.63 up by 201.42 points or by 2.74%. Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 1738.65,+7.32%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 3222.25,+3.93%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 892.55,+3.20%), Macrotech Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1229.85,+2.91%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1461.15,+2.54%),.



Metal index was at 30201.38 down by -119.05 points or by -0.39%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 372.00,-2.30%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 906.00,-1.27%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 235.20,-1.07%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 612.45,-1.05%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 852.10,-0.35%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3157 , shares advanced were 2089 while 957 shares declined and 111 were unchanged.
